Bjarne Carlsen

Bjarne counsels as a European Patent Attorney and European Design Attorney on a number of fields within High-Tech including electronics, mechatronics and mechanical, agricultural and biomedical engineering. Bjarne joined HØIBERG in 2023 and has worked with IP most of the time since 2007. He has a background within biomedical engineering.

Bjarne’s clients range from start-up companies to Danish universities and medium and large size companies primarily within the mechanical, electronics and biomedical industries. He counsels his clients on all types of patent related aspects, such as novelty and prior art searches, patent monitoring, patent drafting, filing and prosecution and opposition and appeal procedures.

Bjarne holds M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering (from the Technical University of Denmark) and in Biomedical Engineering (from Aarhus University). During his education to be an Electrical Engineer, his primary focus was on analog and digital electronics and acoustics, whereas his Master’s Thesis as a Biomedical Engineer was on the analysis of digitally recorded heart sounds with the purpose of creating algorithms for obtaining an automatic diagnosis system.

Before entering the world of IP, Bjarne worked for 12 years with service, production and research within biomedical engineering, and he has spent a total of six years working in Ethiopia for a church-based Danish organisation. Prior to joining HØIBERG, Bjarne has worked for two other Danish patent firms and in 2014 he started his own patent firm, which he ran for just over four years before selling it.
