Carmen joined HØIBERG in 2024, and counsels as a patent consultant in our Life Science team.

Carmen has experience in various types of patent related counselling, including, drafting and prosecution of patent applications, patentability assessments and Freedom-to-operate analyses.

Carmen has a background in Biotechnology and Bioengineering with a BSc degree from the University of Edinburgh with honours in Molecular Genetics, where she worked on yeast metabolic engineering.

She undertook a PhD in Synthetic Biology and Bioengineering at the Technical University of Denmark where her research focused on the development of engineered live biotherapeutic products. Here she worked on a broad array of microbes including yeast, anaerobic bacteria and traditional probiotics, whilst gaining experience metabolic engineering, molecular biology and synthetic biology tool development. Part of her PhD was carried out at North Carolina State University, USA.
